The map and the globe
See where your family lived and how they moved, on a map or on the globe. The map works without internet too.
Where your family lived
- 1Open the map
Choose View, Map. Every event with a place is on it. - 2Choose who and when
Under Who, choose the whole tree, the ancestors or descendants of a person, or a group. Under Period, choose the years. - 3Ask a question
Under Questions, choose for example Where born or Burial places. Under Display, switch between clusters, markers and a heatmap.
Migration lines
With Migration lines, every person gets a colour of their own and a line from place to place, in the order of the years.
Slide Year through time, or click Play: the moves then draw themselves. When there are many, the lines become flows between places; the wider, the more people.
Click a line for the distance as the crow flies, or open the person.
Flat or globe
Under Projection, choose Flat or Globe. The globe shows the earth with satellite imagery; drag to turn it.
With Measure distance, click two places and see how far apart they are.
Without internet too
- The world map with satellite imagery and a list of places are built into Stambeam.
- With internet, the map loads villages and streets as you zoom in.
- For on the road, download a detail map of your area under Settings, Map. It then works offline too.
- Places Stambeam does not know are listed under Not on the map yet. Pick the spot there yourself.
