Presenting on a second screen

Giving a talk about your research at the genealogy society, or sharing your family history at a reunion? Show your family tree on a television or projector while you keep working on your own screen. The second screen shows exactly what your screen shows.

Starting and stopping

  1. 1
    Connect the second screen
Connect the television or projector to your computer. In your computer's settings, choose extended desktop, not mirrored displays.
  2. 2
    Click Present
The Present button is at the top right of the toolbar, and also in the View menu. The whole app appears on the second screen, filling it.
  3. 3
    Keep working
You control everything on your own screen. Switch views, zoom in or open a person: the second screen follows straight away.
  4. 4
    Stop presenting
Click Stop presenting. The second window closes and your own screen stays as it was.

Good to know

  • On the second screen your pointer is a red dot, so everyone can see what you are pointing at.
  • The second screen is for watching only. Clicking there does nothing.
  • A panel in a window of its own comes back to the main window first.
  • Passwords and keys stay off the second screen. Everything else is shown, including details of living people.
  • With a single screen, the presentation opens as a normal window.
